Aditya Anand Singh
human rights, social movements, global constitutionalism

I study how claims to dignity and justice are articulated, contested, and legitimized across courts, social movements, and international institutions. My research approaches human rights as lived and constantly negotiated sociopolitical practices shaped by history, culture, and contention.
My work engages questions of LGBTQ+ rights, postcolonial politics, constitutionalism, and global norm-making, with a particular focus on how rights gain meaning and authority across different settings.
Currently, I am an independent writer and researcher based in India. I completed my undergraduate and master’s degrees at the Department of Political Science, Purdue University (West Lafayette, USA).
Research
My research examines how human rights claims emerge, travel, and transform across legal and political arenas. I am particularly interested in the interaction between social movements and legal institutions, and in how rights claims are legitimized within postcolonial and Global South contexts. My work addresses issues of human rights, sexuality and gender, constitutionalism, and social justice and has been published in academic outlets and legal public forums. [Research →]
Teaching
I have experience teaching and assisting courses in global environmental politics, graduate-level applied statistics, and political scientific research methods. My teaching emphasizes critical inquiry based on the connection between theory and lived political realities. [Teaching →]
